Director, Center for Innovative Teaching and Directed Engaged Learning (CITADEL)


The Human Resources Department announces the position of Director, Center for Innovative Teaching and Directed Engaged Learning (CITADEL), reporting to the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs.

 

Responsibilities include: overall responsibility for the management and coordination of the Robert Morris University (RMU) Center for Innovative Teaching and Directed Engaged Learning (CITADEL) for academic excellence in teaching and learning. This individual works in partnership with faculty, staff and students in advancing the goal of innovative teaching, engaged learning and pedagogically-based learning experiences for students; provides leadership for the strategic planning and growth of the CITADEL; and oversees two components of the CITADEL: Teaching, Learning, and Technology, and Engaged Learning. The incumbent supervises the respective Co-Directors for the two components; provides leadership for developing, implementing, assessing a professional development program to enhance innovative teaching and learning on the RMU campus; provides leadership for developing and implementing a comprehensive program to ensure all undergraduate students complete engaged learning requirements in anticipation of graduation; provides leadership for developing and implementing outcomes assessment plans for continuous improvement of programs to maintain high quality standards; develops and implements strategic goals to increase student participation in learning-based programs; promotes and coordinates faculty involvement in the Center’s innovative teaching activities; works to discover and pursue grant and fund-raising opportunities for the Center; coordinates faculty advisory councils; actively promotes visibility of the University, Schools, faculty and student accomplishments to the teaching and learning communities of interest; identifies suitable campus partners to translate pedagogical research and practice into instructional curriculum to produce desired learning outcomes; promotes engaged learning and other undergraduate academic programs among students and faculty; works closely with deans and faculty in identifying teaching and learning opportunities and provide related support; prepares and manages budgets and manages professional staff and student employees; serves as University spokesperson for the teacher-scholar model; teaches two courses per calendar year; and performs related work .

 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Terminal degree with experience in pedagogy, technology, and engaged and service learning programs.
  • Publication record sufficient to merit the rank of Associate/Professor.
  • Previous management and/or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Competence in fiscal planning, budgeting and management of the Center within prescribed fiscal constraints.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate and work with faculty, students, staff and administrators.
  • Strong track record of achievement, innovation, and partnership building.
  • Strong track record of success in teaching, research/scholarly/creative work, and professional service.
  • Strong track record of outcomes assessment practices.
  • Strong presentation, public speaking interpersonal and marketing skills.
  • Strong project management and leadership skills; self-motivated and self-starter.
  • Experience in securing external support and/or leading fund raising activities preferred.
  • Commitment to RMU’s core values, enthusiasm for academic excellence and strong communication skills are vital.
