Systems Administrator/Systems Engineer
The Human Resources Department announces the
position of Systems Administrator/Systems Engineer,
reporting to the Senior Director, Technical Services.
Responsibilities include: primary
responsibility for supporting and maintaining assigned Tier 1 and Tier 2
production systems, running Windows Server or UNIX/Linus, VMware, Oracle and MS
SQL Server databases, networking equipment and SAN technology; install,
configure and maintain new server hardware and software following departmental
policies; Manage and monitor the integration of cloud-based solutions such as
platform-as-a-service (Paas) and Infrastructure-as-a-services (IaaS); write
basic UNIX shell scripts or PowerShell scripts to automate processes and for
problem resolution; maintain meticulous documentation of systems configurations
and procedures, including diagrams and following departmental standards; assist
customers in diagnosing application issues and work with them to schedule
application of patches, software updates and hardware upgrades; participate in
the development and testing of disaster recovery processes and procedures;
monitor assigned systems, communicate capacity or performance issues, and take
appropriate actions regarding emergency procedures; contact hardware and
software vendors to resolve hardware outages and software defects, and follow
problems through to resolution; and other duties as assigned.
Associate’s Degree in Networking, Computer Science, Computer Hardware or relevant industry certification (A+, MCP, etc.) or significant progress toward a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field; Working knowledge of UNIX/Linux operating systems, VMware or Hyper-V virtualization, Windows Server operating systems and Microsoft Active Directory; Basic working knowledge of TCP/IP networking: networking topology, protocols and services (i.e. TCP, UDP, DNS, DHCP, NFS).
Alternatively, Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field with at least two years of applicable experience. At least two years of experience in administration of Windows Server operating systems and Microsoft Active Directory; Knowledge of and experience with UNIX/Linux operating systems and VMware or Hyper-V virtualization; Knowledge of and experience with at least one major server hardware product family; Knowledge of and experience with database technology including Oracle or MS SQL; Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking: networking topology, protocols and services (i.e. TCP, UDP, DNS, DHCP, NFS).
Knowledge of and experience with SAN and NAS based storage technologies.
Knowledge of network and server security practices.
Ability to be on call 7x24 for support of production systems.
Certification in any of the technologies explicitly mentioned is a plus.
Demonstrated ability to solve problems with little direction.
Ability to complete tasks on time.
Ability to handle multiple priorities.
