Systems Engineer/Senior Systems Engineer
The Human Resources Department announces the position of Systems Engineer/Senior Systems Engineer, reporting to the Senior Director, Technical Services.

 

Responsibilities include: develop department standards for server configurations, working closely with the Director on patch management strategy and incorporating industry best practices; assume primary responsibility for supporting and maintaining assigned Tier 1 and Tier 2 production systems running Windows Server or UNIX/Linux, VMware, Oracle and MS SQL Server databases, networking equipment, and SAN technology; audit work of less experienced personnel and provide technology coaching/mentoring; architect, install, configure, and maintain new server hardware and software following departmental policies; develop, implement, maintain, and monitor backup schedules in conjunction with Applications personnel; architect, manage, and monitor integration of cloud-based solutions such as platform-as-a-service (Paas) and Infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS); develop, implement, maintain and monitor backup schedules in conjunction with Applications personnel; write UNIX shell scripts or PowerShell scripts to automate processes and for problem resolution; maintain documentation of systems configurations and procedures, including diagrams; assist customers in diagnosing application issues and work to schedule application of patches, software updates and hardware upgrades; take a lead role and/or participate in the development and testing of disaster recovery processes and procedures; monitor assigned systems, communicate capacity or performance issues, and take appropriate actions regarding emergency procedures; contact hardware and software vendors to resolve hardware outages and software defects, and follow problems through to their resolution;  other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related filed.

Systems Engineer: At least 2 years of applicable experience; 2+ years of experience in administration of Windows Server operating systems and Microsoft Active Directory; knowledge of and experience with UNIX/Linux operating systems and VMware or Hyper-V virtualization; knowledge of and experience with at least one major server hardware product family; knowledge of and experience with database technology including Oracle or MS SQL.

Sr. Systems Engineer: At least 5 years of applicable experience; 5+ years of experience with database technology including Oracle and MS SQL; in-depth knowledge of UNIX, Linux, VMware and Windows Server operating systems.

  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking:  networking topology, protocols and services (i.e. TCP, UDP, DNS, DHCP, NFS).
  • Knowledge of and experience with SAN and NAS based storage technologies.
  • Knowledge of network and server security practices.
  • Ability to be on call 7x24 for support of production systems.
  • Certification in any of the technologies explicitly a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems without direction.
  • Ability to complete tasks on time and handle multiple priorities.
