ASSISTANT COACH/ACADEMIC COUNSLEOR, WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Assistant Coach/Academic Counselor, Women's Basketball
The Human Resources Department announces the
position of Assistant Coach and Academic Counselor,
Women’s Basketball, reporting to the Head Coach, Women’s Basketball.
Responsibilities include: assist in the development
of a successful program including development of high quality student-athletes
as well as demonstrating athletic excellence; establish a leadership/mentor
role among student-athletes and supportive staff while promoting sportsmanship
and responsible behavior during and outside of athletic competition; work with
the Center for Student Success to manage the scheduling of student-athlete
classes for each of their programs of study; prepare
students for later educational experiences by encouraging them to explore
learning opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasks; evaluate
students’ abilities, interests, and career goals using records, interviews, or
professional sources; develop a relationship with faculty members and
monitor the academic progress of each of the student-athletes; coordinate
tutoring of student-athletes including providing actual tutoring when appropriate
and arranging for specialized tutoring from the Center for Student Success; supervise
academic study tables, community service activities, and other academic and
co-curricular team activities; counsel students regarding educational issues
such as course and program selection, class scheduling and registration,
college adjustment, study habits and career planning; assist in organizing and
supervision of practice, conditioning, and workouts; assist with home events
and the management of travel for away events; scouting of opponents via
computerized scouting system, oral and written reports; developing an extensive
scouting report detailing the opponent and offering a game strategy; assist in
the scouting and recruiting of quality student-athletes from geographically and
demographically diverse populations; assist with the coordination of admissions
with the Assistant Director of Athletics for Compliance and the Enrollment
Management; develop a positive working relationship with faculty and University
staff to assist in the recruiting process; participate in the preparation of
correspondence with prospects, coaches, parents, alumni, etc. including
mailings and responses; assist in the arrangement of campus visitations,
including itineraries, academic appointments, campus tours, town tours,
student-athlete hosts, housing, meals, game tickets, and entertainment; work
closely with the athletic training staff to ensure safety and health of
student-athletes; demonstrate a cooperative attitude toward all other sports
within the RMU intercollegiate athletics program; abide by all NCAA and
University regulations, policies, and procedures; report any known or suspected
NCAA violations; work closely with the Director of Compliance to complete
required compliance paperwork; promote and coordinate basketball camps and
clinics; perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Master’s degree in education, physical education, or related field required.
Minimum of two years of experience in coaching Women’s Basketball preferred.
Valid Driver's License Required
Commitment to student-athlete welfare and academic success.
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Commitment to NCAA and University rules.
